HARARE, Aug. 12 (NewsDay Live) — Six people were killed in two separate road traffic accidents along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls and Harare-Bulawayo roads on Tuesday, police said in Wednesday.
The first accident occurred at about 4:30pm at the 279km peg along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road when a Mazda T35 carrying 29 passengers, who were congregants of an apostolic church, allegedly veered off the road and crashed into a river bank.
Four passengers died at the scene, while 12 others were injured.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police reports two fatal road traffic accidents which occurred on 11th August 2026 along the Bulawayo–Victoria Falls Road and Harare–Bulawayo Road, respectively,” police said in a statement yesterday.
The bodies of the four victims were taken to Hwange Colliery Mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
In the second accident, which occurred at the 146km peg along the Harare-Bulawayo Road, a Honda Fit was involved in a head-on collision with a Toyota Hilux.
The Honda Fit veered off the road, overturned and landed on its roof following the collision.
Police said two of the Honda Fit passengers, who had sustained severe injuries, died upon admission to Kadoma General Hospital.

The police did not provide details on the condition of the other passengers involved in the second accident.
Police urged motorists to exercise caution and avoid carrying passengers beyond the stipulated capacity of their vehicles.
