Health authorities intensify rollout of "Welcome back package" for ART defaulters

Speaking during a  Ministry of Health and Child Care media training programme in Bulawayo, a senior health executive said returning clients would receive non-judgmental screening and counselling before resuming medication.

BULAWAYO, June 25 (NewsDay Live)-Health authorities in Zimbabwe have scaled up the rollout of "Welcome back package" for patients who defaulted on their Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) in order to guard against regression in the fight against HIV and Aids

 

Speaking during a  Ministry of Health and Child Care media training programme in Bulawayo, a senior health executive said returning clients would receive non-judgmental screening and counselling before resuming medication.

 

A facilitator, Pugie Chimberengwa from the Organisation of Public Health Intervention and Development said: "We need to be empathetic and not stigmatize them. Avoid asking them questions such as why they experienced treatment fatigue."
