THREE men arrested for stocktheft in Gweru early this year have been jailed nine years each.
The convicts are Chrispen Matondo (40) of Isiah Park, Tanaka Murerekwa (24) of Council Park and Enock Mpofu (32) of Forit Extension, all from Zvishavane.
The latest development was confirmed by Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.
“We wish to update the public about the court finalisation of a stocktheft case which occurred on January 22, 2025. The case happened during the night at Hwahwa Prison Farm,” he said.
“The case was reported in the media. Three suspects involved in the case were tried and convicted at Gweru courts.
“They were sentenced to nine years effective imprisonment each by provincial magistrate Arnold Mabhunu on July 31, 2025.”
In committing the offence, the three hired a motor vehicle from Zvishavane and travelled along the Gweru-Mvuma Highway looking for stray cattle.
They slaughtered one beast at Hwahwa Prison Farm and carried the carcass to their market in Mkoba high-density suburb in Gweru, where their activities were detected, leading to their arrests.
