Man in trouble for grave desecration

The accused, Panashe Nyawasha, was remanded in custody to next week for bail application.

A 27-YEAR-OLD man from Harare yesterday appeared before Harare magistrate Donald Ndirowei facing two counts of desecrating graves and attempted murder.

The accused, Panashe Nyawasha, was remanded in custody to next week for bail application.

According to court papers, on July 29, Nyawasha destroyed some graves at Warren Hills Cemetery with a hammer.

He was confronted by city council security personnel at the cemetery and he severely assaulted them with a hammer before he was subdued.

The court heard that a security personnel sustained a broken leg due to the assault by Nyawasha.

The value of damaged graves is US$1 500.
