Bogus cop nabbed for impersonation, extortion

POLICE in Shamva on Saturday arrested Tawanda Makanda (35) for impersonating members of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), conducting an arrest and demanding a bribe.

POLICE in Shamva on Saturday arrested Tawanda Makanda (35) for impersonating members of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), conducting an arrest and demanding a bribe.

In a statement on the official Zimbabwe Republic Police X (formerly Twitter) account early this week, the law enforcers said they had only arrested Makanda while his two accomplices are still at large.

“The suspect, together with his two accomplices, who are yet to be arrested, allegedly went to Shamva, where they arrested a complainant on allegations of theft of a cellphone, claiming that they were detectives from CID Stores and Business.

“The suspects demanded US$30 from the complainant which they were given and they released the complainant,” the police wrote.
