A 19-year-old woman from Makwika Village was Wednesday July 9, 2025 sentenced to 12 months in prison by a Hwange magistrate after she scalded her husband and a neighbour with boiling water during a domestic dispute.
The attack, which took place on June 2, 2025, left both victims hospitalised with serious burns.
The woman was sentenced to 12 months in prison for domestic violence and an additional 24 months for assault.
In the assault sentence, 12 months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour, while the remaining 12 months were commuted to 630 hours of community service.
According to court proceedings, the altercation began when the husband questioned his wife over suspicious messages found on her phone.
The argument escalated when the woman slapped him, grabbed his private parts, dragged him into the kitchen and poured boiling water over his lower body, inflicting severe burns.
A female neighbour who attempted to intervene in the fight was also attacked and scalded on her chest, resulting in her hospitalisation.
The case was reported to ZRP Hwange, leading to the woman’s arrest and subsequent conviction.
