Indian women donate foodstuffs, blankets to 5 charity homes

THE Indian Women’s Association (IWA) has donated foodstuffs and blankets to five charity homes in Zimbabwe as part of their 2025 Winter Warmth Charity Drive.

THE Indian Women’s Association (IWA) has donated foodstuffs and blankets to five charity homes in Zimbabwe as part of their 2025 Winter Warmth Charity Drive.

The non-profit organisation, established in 1995, is dedicated to transforming the lives of less fortunate members of society.

Speaking during the handing over of the donation on Wednesday, IWA secretary Nalini Devchand said the organisation had successfully supported more than 72 charities across the country.

“No wonder we have been very successful over the years in supporting more than 72 charities in Zimbabwe,” she said.

Devchand emphasised the association’s commitment to improving the lives of orphans, abandoned children, and the homeless and elderly members of society.

“We live in a world that has become self-centred and selfish. But this is not the case with the ladies from our association,” she said.

She highlighted the association's tireless efforts in fighting poverty in Zimbabwe.

“We stand true to our motto: ‘Together we aim to bring smiles’,” Devchand added.

“We stay committed to bringing joy and happiness to the lives of the less fortunate members of society.”

She further mentioned that children are among the world’s most valuable resource and that IWA strives to secure their future by providing foodstuffs and blankets to sustain them.

“We are supporting five different homes which struggle each day to meet the needs of the residents at the home,” the IWA secretary said.

Wednesday’s beneficiaries include Harare Children’s Home, Kasipiti Children’s Home, Lord Orphans Care, Rose of Sharon Zimbabwe and Tariro Children’s Home.

Devchand also said the IWA’s mission was to alleviate poverty and assist the needy across Zimbabwe.

“The association stays committed to a task we started 30 years ago in alleviating poverty in Zimbabwe,” she said.

“In our small way, we try to make a difference to the social ecology.”

She added that members of the organisation contributed to building a brighter future not just for them but also for those around them.

“Let us reach out to the children. Let us do whatever we can to support their fight to rise above their pain and suffering,” she said.
