Get some education, prophets, prophetesses told

Johanne The Fifth of Africa Church leader, archbishop Andby Makururu

MUTARE, May 29 (NewsDay Live) - Prophets and other men and women of the cloth have been urged to get the minimum education if they are to lead and communicate well with their congregants.

The remarks were made by Johanne The Fifth of Africa Church leader, archbishop Andby Makururu in Mutare at his Parushanga shrine when he was honouring some prophets and prophetesses with certificates of graduation in recognition of the successful completion of the leadership of a spiritual guidance programme.

Makururu said any prophet or prophetess should have at least Ordinary level qualifications to lead congregants in his church.

He honoured several men and women of the cloth across the country before delivering a speech urging them to be united.

"We want real prophets, who have respect and real order. If you want to be a prophet of Johanne The Fifth of Africa, you should have certain qualifications,” Makururu said.

“We are now looking for our prophets and prophetesses in Zimbabwe to have Ordinary level qualifications.

“We are doing this because there is a time you lead some people with diplomas or degrees, and there is a certain communication which is expected of a church leader with such people.”

Makururu has hundreds of prophets and prophetesses dotted around the country.

“As church leaders, we should be good communicators. The way we communicate with others, we should be a good example to the people,” he said.

“We expect you to be honest and also to know the ideology of the country.”

Makururu urged his prophets to be good counsellors and business-minded people.

He pledged to build a school of prophets, claiming he was still looking for a suitable place to erect the institution.

Makururu was last week awarded a Solidarity Award by the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates for the support he has shown towards the people of Palestine.

The award is written: “Holy Land of Palestine Solidarity Award Presented to Andby Makururu of the Republic of Zimbabwe issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the State of Palestine on the occasion of the 77th Anniversary of Alnakba”.

This is the highest order of award given to religious leaders and on the order of the country’s President.

Makururu has met President Emmerson Mnangagwa several times at State House and his church gatherings.

Recently, he met Mozambican President Daniel Chapo in the neighbouring country.
