A DISGRUNTLED Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) councillor has quit the party to contest in an upcoming parliamentary by-election in his neighbouring constituency as an independent candidate.
Ward 15 councillor in Filabusi district, Leslie Dube, said he was tired of Zanu PF’s dominance in Insiza North, where a by-election is scheduled for June 14.
The National Assembly seat fell vacant following the death of Zanu PF legislator Farai Taruvinga.Dube said he was resigning from the opposition party with immediate effect in a letter dated May 14 addressed to acting CCC president Welshman Ncube.
“This decision has not been an easy one,” Dube said.
“It comes after extensive reflection on the state of our democratic struggle and the urgent need to confront and dismantle the enduring hegemony of Zanu PF in our rural strongholds, particularly in Insiza North.
“I have come to the difficult conclusion that I can no longer carry out this mission from within the CCC under the current circumstances.”
Dube said the decision was influenced by his “unshakable commitment to defending and expanding the democratic space”.
“My resignation should not be mistaken for betrayal of the struggle, but rather as a redirection of my energy towards confronting tyranny and oppression head-on, with the hope of securing representation that speaks directly to the needs and hopes of the people of Insiza,” he said.
