Bulawayo man caged 10 years for attacking taxi driver, carjacking

Court hammer

BULAWAYO, Apr. 2, (NewsDayLive) - A 22-year-old Bulawayo man, who together with his two alleged accomplices attacked a taxi driver and robbed him of his vehicle, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Respect Khumalo Nyoni was sentenced earlier this week for assault and carjacking.

The court heard that on October 1, 2024 Nyoni and his alleged accomplices Wisdom Musundire and Precautious Moyo, who are both still at large, hired taxi driver Alec Siziba to drive them from Old Luveve to the city centre.

Along the way, Nyoni and his colleagues grabbed the driver from behind and strangled while taking control of the vehicle.

The attackers then bound the victim’s wrists and ankles with ropes before shoving him into the cramped boot of his gold Toyota Funcargo, court heard.

The suspects then drove to Filabusi, some 100 kilometres away where they dumped Siziba near Esidilini turn-off and sped off with the vehicle.
