Zanu PF legislator acquitted of rape charge

In his ruling, Tsikwa said the witness, who is the victim, was inconsistent with her evidence, adding that she made a false police report.

ZANU PF legislator for Mazowe, Tsungai Makumbe, was yesterday acquitted by Harare magistrate Clever Tsikwa on a charge of raping a 23-year-old woman.

In his ruling, Tsikwa said the witness, who is the victim, was inconsistent with her evidence, adding that she made a false police report.

Makumbe was represented by John Ndomene.

It was the State’s case that in November 2022, Makumbe went to the victim’s house and asked her to come outside where he had parked his vehicle.

The legislator allegedly proposed love to the complainant, who turned him down before he allegedly pulled pistol and demanded to have sex with her.

He then allegedly raped her.

After the act, Makumbe reportedly gave the alleged victim US$20 and told her to buy morning after pills.

The matter came to light after the complainant went to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where she was medically examined.
