Mar. 12 (NewsDay Live) - A Harare businessman was allegedly duped US$50 000 by a Chirundu man in a botched gold deal.
The matter was withdrawn before Harare magistrate Rufaro Panavanhu after the State indicated that the complainant was not available since he had travelled to Dubai.
Paul Rubvinga (28) was advised by the court to return on summons if the complainant has managed to come and testify before the court.
The complainant is Ali Noshad of Milton Park in the capital.
It is in State’s case that in October 2024, Rubvinga contacted the complainant, falsely claiming to have expertise in gold trading.
He offered to assist Noshad in purchasing gold at a competitive rate and as a result of this offer, the complainant invited him to his place in order for him to collect US$50 000 for the purchase of gold.
On October 20, 2024, Rubvinga collected the money and told Noshad that he would deliver the gold the next day.
The next day, Noshad made several attempts to contact Rubvinga after he failed to turn up in time and discovered that his mobile phone had been switched off.
