Critical programmes to continue amid USAID global freeze

The pause, which took effect on January 20, was ordered by US President  Donald Trump to allow for a review of US foreign aid programmes.

HARARE, Feb 5 (NewsDayLive) -In a move aimed at mitigating the impact of the recent pause on US foreign assistance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has issued a waiver  allowing for partial provision of aid in life-saving programmes.

The pause, which took effect on January 20, was ordered by US President  Donald Trump to allow for a review of US foreign aid programmes.

In a statement on Wednesday, the US Embassy in Harare confirmed that some agencies, partners, and NGOs will be allowed to continue providing critical services, including life-saving medicine, medical care, food, shelter, and other essential assistance during the 90-day review period.
