HARARE, Feb 5 (NewsDay Live) - Former Binga North legislator Prince Dubeko Sibanda (CCC) walked out of court a free man Wednesday after the State withdrew the public violence charges levelled against him.
His lawyer Alec Muchadehama confirmed the development, saying the State did not give reasons for its decision to withdraw the charge before plea.
The State had alleged that sometime between August 1 and 16 last year, Sibanda posted messages on his X handle and CCC WhatsApp groups inciting opposition members to engage in violent activities, barricading roads and burning shops and tyres countrywide demanding Sadc's intervention to end Zimbabwe's disputed electoral cycles.
The protests, according to the State, were meant to forestall the Sadc Summit held in Harare later that month.
Sibanda was being represented in the matter by Harare lawyer Alec Muchadehama.
Sibanda was re-elected the MP for Binga North in the 2023 general election. Shortly afterwards, he together with several other CCC MPs were recalled by Sengezo Tshabangu, who claimed to be the interim secretary-general of the party.
