Stakeholders challenged to tackle global trilemma

Mafukidze said fighting climate change required innovative thinking, collaborative action and holistic solutions.

ALPHA Media Holdings (AMH) chief executive Kenias Mafukidze has said nation-building is one of the key driving agendas of the media.

Mafukidze said this yesterday after pledging AMH’s commitment towards tackling the climate change crisis to create a sustainable future for generations to come.

He was speaking at the Annual Sustainability Summit organised by AMH, publishers of the Zimbabwe Independent, NewsDay, Southern Eye and The Standard, it also operates an online broadcasting station HStv.

The summit was held in Harare and ran under the theme Beyond the Global Trilemma.

Mafukidze said fighting climate change required innovative thinking, collaborative action and holistic solutions.

“As we embark on this journey together over the next few days, we recognise that the challenges we face — economic stability, environmental sustainability and social equity — are interconnected,” he said.

“Each of these elements forms a part of the global trilemma and navigating these complexities requires innovative thinking, collaborative action and a commitment to holistic solutions.”

He added: “As a media house, we have taken nation building as one of our key driving agendas. Nothing fits this mission more than tackling the global trilemma.”

Mafukidze said collaboration of all stakeholders was key to achieving global trilemma goals.

“Let us remember that the journey towards sustainability is not a solitary one,” he said.

“It requires all of us — governments, businesses, communities and individuals — to work together, to listen, to learn and to act. As we share our ideas and experiences, let us do so with an open mind and a spirit of co-operation.”

The summit brought together academics, innovators, government officials, activists and other stakeholders, to tackle the complex challenges of economic stability, environmental sustainability and social equity.
