Hands on experience …

Marvellous Matswimbo

MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) graduate Marvellous Matswimbo has returned to Zimbabwe after a two-week internship in South Africa, where she gained insight into the workings of the television industry in that country.

She was MTF 2023 student representing Southern Africa. The MTF is run in Lusaka for 20 students from across the region. As a prize for graduating with commendation, she won a two-week  internship aimed at giving her a greater understanding of the film and TV industry.

MTF is an initiative of MultiChoice Africa — the continent’s leading entertainment group, which offers a wide range of products and services, including DStv, GOtv, Showmax, M-Net and SuperSport, among others — in which 60 students are trained each year in an intensive one-year course on film and TV production, 20 each at MTF academies in Lusaka for Southern Africa, Nairobi for East Africa, and Lagos for West Africa.

The initiative started in 2018 and in the five courses to date there have been 10 Zimbabwean students, two for each year. During her internship, she visited several production sets and processing points, including ‘Shaka Ilembe’, ‘Queen Modjadji’, ‘Kites’ and some Showmax productions.

She says she is excited about her prospects for the future, with her experience in South Africa and within the whole MTF programme giving her insights and skills that she can apply to the film industry in Zimbabwe.
