SHE event to inspire, empower young women in Harare

HARARE, Jul. 29 (NewsDay Live) – Save a Dream Trust will host its flagship women’s empowerment event, “She Is: Powerful, Beautiful and Enough,” in Harare on Aug. 29, bringing together young women and girls for a day of mentorship, leadership development and entrepreneurship training. The event will be held at 36 Alexander Guest House in Highlands under an all-shades-of-pink dress code, with admission set at US$20. Save a Dream Trust founder and director Nicole Zinyowera said the initiative aims to create a platform where young women can learn from accomplished female leaders, build lasting networks and develop the confidence to pursue their ambitions. “We believe the company we keep shapes the people we become. ‘She Is’ creates a space where girls and young women can be surrounded by women who are intentionally building meaningful lives and proving that dreams are attainable,” Zinyowera said. She said the programme reflects the organisation’s belief that no circumstance should prevent girls and young women from achieving their potential, particularly those facing social and economic challenges. Zinyowera said the growing influence of social media makes it increasingly important to expose young women to positive role models and constructive information. “Young women are constantly exposed to messages that can either build or diminish their confidence. ‘She Is’ encourages them to take control of their minds, embrace positive influences and pursue their dreams with purpose,” she said. The event’s theme centres on three messages: that women are powerful enough to shape their futures and overcome adversity, that true beauty is rooted in confidence, dignity and character, and that every young woman is enough and capable of turning challenges into opportunities. Participants will attend practical sessions on goal-setting, vision-board creation, identity and self-worth, entrepreneurship and skills-based business development, while also benefiting from mentorship and networking opportunities. Among the keynote speakers is Sylvia Sanyanga, founder of The Nate Foundation and Medinate and co-director of Kutenda Creations, whose work has focused on women’s empowerment and supporting children living with Fanconi anaemia and aplastic anaemia. Zinyowera said the organisation intends for “She Is” to evolve into a sustained empowerment programme rather than a once-off event. “Our vision is for ‘She Is’ to become the beginning of a lifelong journey where young women continue supporting one another through mentorship, collaboration and shared opportunities long after the event has ended,” she said. She appealed to businesses, organisations and individuals to partner with Save a Dream Trust to sponsor financially disadvantaged girls so they can attend the event. The trust says the initiative seeks to equip participants with practical skills, positive networks and accurate information to help them make informed decisions about education, careers, entrepreneurship and personal development.
