NetOne Albun Honde Valley International Marathon 2025 launched

NetOne Albun Honde Valley International Marathon 2025 launched

The NetOne Albun Honde Valley International Marathon 2025, which is scheduled for November 22, was officially launched at a colorful ceremony in Harare yesterday.

Former Warriors utility player Alois Bunjira, who is the events director, said the marathon, which is in its third season, has grown bigger and has been officially registered as an international event by the World Athletics Board.

It will also serve as a qualifier for the Comrades, an ultramarathon in South Africa for next year.

The marathon is sponsored by NetOne, Nyaradzo, First Mutual, Sir Charles Fitness Centre, Albun Fitness Centre, SEAL, Wny Apparel Wonayi, Tendo Valley Lodges and CAG Buses, among others.

Bunjira told NewsDay Sport that he wanted to promote health and well-being of, in addition to marketing the scenic Honde Valley, his home area.

“We want to let people know that Honde Valley is the most beautiful place in Zimbabwe. We started this marathon in this most beautiful terrain and toughest terrain as well and those that love running in tough terrain, they should join us on November 22 in Honde Valley,” Bunjira said.

“But it’s more than just a run, it’s a weekend of fun and festival. It’s like a weekend getaway.

“You want to come and do fun things there, run, and tour and have fun in Honde Valley.

“It’s tourism in general, so that’s what we are promoting and we are glad our event has been turned into an international marathon, which was scientifically measured and certified by the World Athletics Board.”

Nyasha Rejoice Nyamudya, customer services executive at Tendo, said their involvement in the marathon empowers the youth and builds a more vibrant community through sports and tourism.

National Foods brand ambassadors Tanaka and Valentine, who had a wide array of cereals on display, said an athlete needs to be well nourished and are encouraged to consume certified products from National Foods.

Albun Honde Valley International Marathon organizing committee member Andrew Rusike announced cash prizes of between US$50 and US$1 500 for winners.

Rusike said participants should start the registration processes and collect their bibs and detailed confirmations on November 8 and 15 at NetOne branches in Harare, November 14 and 15 in Bulawayo and those in and near Mutare, on November 21.
