Crowned Miss Nust 2025, Nomqhele has vision beyond crown

Nomqhele Sisa Nkomo

PASSION lit up the stage as Nomqhele Sisa Nkomo was being crowned Miss Nust 2025 at the weekend at a vibrant ceremony held on campus.

Speaking to NewsDay Life & Style, the 20-year-old described the pageant as “highly competitive and emotionally charged”.

“The competition was tense and I was working with very amazing ladies who outdid themselves,” Nkomo said.

“I was surprised when I won. When reality finally sank in, I realised all the hard work I had put in had finally paid off.”

A first year journalism student at the National University of Science and Technology (Nust), Nkomo is also a talented designer and spoken word poet, a creative blend that sets her apart.

Her multidimensional personality captured the hearts of judges and audiences alike, making her win compelling and inspiring.

She said  she was not taking the crown lightly, adding that she planned to uplift the Miss Nust brand, envisioning it as a launchpad for national recognition.

“I aim going to make the Miss Nust brand something people aspire to be and hopefully raise its standard to fit national pageants,” she said with determination.

Nkomo said she was laying the groundwork for a reign defined by impact. She has lined up various projects targeting challenges faced by students, pledging to be an active voice and agent of change.

“I will do as much as I can during the time of my reign,” she said.

As she steps into her new role, Nkomo said she represented not only beauty and elegance, but also  leadership, creativity and a deep commitment to her peers and community.
