A NEW musical show titled, Bring A New Song, is set to hit local screens soon.

Organisers of the show have just finished filming the pilot project.

DJ Chili, real name Hazvinei Sakarombe, is the host.

Bring a new song focuses on songs that have never been recorded.

Veteran British-based veteran writer David Mwanaka is the brains behind the concept.

The judges’ panel includes Taonga Mafundikwa and Miriam Patsanza.

Producer and director of the show Nobert Fero said the programme aimed to encourage creativity.

“The main aim of our show is to push for creativity, own creations and promote originality. We want our contestants to bring a new song that has never been recorded and we don’t want imitations too,” Fero said.

A recording contract is the coveted prize for the best song.

“At the end of each season, the winner or winners of the best song will be rewarded with a recording contract for six songs, including the

song that was played on the show.

“They will choose a studio and have exclusive rights to their music.

“It is open to up-and-coming and established artistes as long as it is a new song.

“On this project, we managed to capture aspiring and underground artistes. In our first season, we hope to get more artistes on board,” he said.

According to the organisers, viewers will vote for the winning song.

“The judges’ role is to select the artistes, streamlining them until the penultimate phase. The viewers will then choose the winning song through a voting platform. Artistes sing for the people and people should decide what they like,” Fero said.

Seven artistes qualified for the finals on the pilot project, two females and five males.

The artistes performed mbira, Afro-fusion, reggae and gospel genres.

Fero added: “The first season will be shot in Harare and other upcoming seasons will be shot in Bulawayo and Mutare.”
