Bhila’s ‘Wamuhle’ gets overwhelming reception

Born Patriach Welcom Joel Manyabi, Bhila (30) told NewsDay Life & Style that he is a storyteller.

BULAWAYO-BASED musician Bhila is thrilled by the extraordinary reception accorded to his latest song Wamuhle, which has not only garnered significant attention but also stolen the hearts of many music lovers with its captivating melody and thought-provoking lyrics.

Born Patriach Welcom Joel Manyabi, Bhila (30) told NewsDay Life & Style that he is a storyteller.

“I am a lover of stories and thus I am a storyteller. My gift and mandate is to give people good music that uplifts their spirits. I am all about positivity," Bhila said.

He revealed his excitement over the reception the song got from music lovers, highlighting that he expected such a reaction when he was creating the song last year.

"I am happy about the reception, it was very good. I expected it the day I started recording the song last year in August,” the musician said.

“I went around doing listening sessions in late December last year at Lupane State University and Bulawayo Polytechnic and the reception was very positive. I knew when it drops it would hit hard even if the marketing budget is at zero.”

He added that Wamuhle was inspired by a young beautiful lady, adding that he wrote the song from a space of love with a big smile on his face.

"Wamuhle is a love song. It is a celebration of love and it was inspired by a young beautiful lady. l wrote the song from a space of love with a big smile on my face and that is why the song has such vibes," Bhila said.

He added: "The message is that I am simply cultivating the culture of love, embracing your beauty and celebrating and I believe people got the message."

The musician began his music career with the release of the album Iphephandaba in 2023, which earned him a nomination for Outstanding Newcomer at the 2023 Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards.

 Bhila noted that the album had 10 songs, unfortunately, his songs had been taken down due to poor administration on his part.

He expressed gratitude to his supporters, highlighting that: "I'm humbled by the support and I live towards my work."

The musician acknowledged that music production is expensive, which posed a significant challenge, but he expressed confidence that with time, he will find ways to sustain his craft and secure sufficient resources to fully fund his projects.
