ART depictions and sculpting in the motherland have existed since time immemorial, dating as far back as the early 13th century during the era of the Caveman.
Murals and reliefs have been used as a form of communication, conservation and beautification in ancient Egypt; every generation had its standout artist.
Fast forward to 2025, Zimbabwean illustrator Dion Ndlovu is emerging as a notable artist.
He recently showcased his debut 9-piece exhibition at Alliance Française this past weekend and invited NewsDay Life & Style.
“This past weekend’s collection was titled No Fear of Judgement, so I was showcasing something that I made based on my expressionism type of art. So, these are pieces that had to do with sadness, happiness and rage. Yesterday was my first solo exhibition and the turnout was great because we had up to 90 people coming through,” he said.
“I had a whole year to prepare for the exhibition; it was a success; the vibe was good and the ambiance was great. To anyone who came to see my work, I want to say thank you. I am looking forward to more art and better exhibitions.”
The event was a success, with over 80 people in attendance.
Ndlovu attracted public attention in 2023 when President Emmerson Mnangagwa posed for a photo while holding portraits of himself, which were drawn by Dion.
