IN a bold move meant to diversify income streams and empower members, Bulawayo-based dance group, Isizwe Sabatsha, has ventured into the catering business, providing a platform for dancers to gain new skills while generating revenue to sustain their artistic pursuits.
The group's founder Lungile Ncube said they ventured into catering business, The Nations Catering, with the name of the business derived from the Ndebele word Isizwe, which symbolises the group's commitment to cultural exchange and collaboration.
"We are excited to venture into the catering business, working hand-in-hand with professional cooks who are not only providing expertise but also training our members in preparing different types of dishes," Ncube told NewsDay Life & Style.
The founder expressed pride in the group's achievements, saying: "We have already catered to numerous functions and have never disappointed. This venture has created another employment opportunity for our members, empowering them with new skills."
Formed on April 19, 2009, for individuals aged 17 and above, Isizwe Sabatsha has been providing a platform for youth to channel their energies positively.
Ncube said by keeping them busy, the group helped to alleviate stress and offered employment opportunities.
Specialising in various arts disciplines, including music, poetry, theatre and dance, Ncube said the group aimed to keep youths engaged and productive.
Notably, the group has had the privilege of meeting and sharing the stage with renowned artistes such as Jeyz Marabini, Sandra Ndebele and Soul Brothers. In April 2023, the group welcomed President Emmerson Mnangagwa at Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport. Its performances have been featured at notable events, including Skyz Metro FM's first birthday celebrations, Kwese iflix show at City Hall and Pagomba Cafe in Beitbridge.
