CONTEMPORARY Christian musician Nokufeza Vuyolethu Ngwenya, also known as Vuyo Brown in the music circles, says she uses her voice to advocate and support various causes of women and young people.
In an interview with NewsDay Life & Style, Vuyo Brown said she supported anything with a positive impact on people’s lives, mostly to do with women and the youth adding that she has passion for young people and has been an advocate for mental health for the past few years.
“Many people cannot speak up for themselves while others just need to be led. I show up when I can be of use and if it is in line with my purpose or mandate,” she said.
The musician recalled a moment where she felt her music had made a positive impact.
“People reach out to me more often from different parts of the world. Some are comforted as they grieve to just feel hopeful after listening to my songs. One person once reached out after listening to my song Thula Wazi (Be Still and Know) on One Gospel channel. He had lost his mother and the song was helping him to get through it,” Vuyo Brown said.
Vuyo Brown identifies herself as a multi-genre artiste with a passion that lies in exploring God through music. She has exhibited her versatility through musical collaborations with South African artiste Speedy titled I Need You, an Amapiano song and Afro house song Ndiyabulela with Sifiso M from Swaziland, among others.
Besides her versatility, Vuyo Brown is open to take the challenge and explore several sounds that soothe her soul.
Her discography includes songs such as Thula Wazi, Smile, I Need You, Ndiyabulela, Vuyani and No Way.

Vuyo Brown’s contribution to the arts industry has garnered her recognition. She is a two-time winner of the Outstanding Female Artiste of the Year in 2020 and 2021 at the Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAA), earned a nomination for Best Jazz at the Zimbabwe Music awards (Zima) in 2020 while her song Thula Wazi was nominated for BAA Song of the Year in the same year. She was nominated for the Outstanding Female Musician category at the National Arts Merit Awards that were held last month.
