Chris 99 feels the weight of having a superstar brother

Speaking to NewsDay Life & Style Chris 99 revealed that it was hard to move away from Nutty O’s shadow as music fans compare him to his multi-award-winning

AS a rising musician it is not easy to be brother to a talented superstar. Nutty O’s brother Nyasha Chiwadzwa also known as Chris 99 is facing the challenge of being compared to the award-winning musician.

Speaking to NewsDay Life & Style Chris 99 revealed that it was hard to move away from Nutty O’s shadow as music fans compare him to his multi-award-winning brother.

“It is a comparison, obviously people are entitled to compare notwithstanding the fact that Nutty O has been making successful moves locally and regionally in the Afro-dancehall genre.

“Nutty O has been endorsed by giants like Nigerian reggae-dancehall singer Patoranking and Jamaican dancehall reggae musician Busy Signal while on the other hand, Chris 99 is just a rising musician,” he said.

“Also, another challenge is that Nutty O is a perfectionist who always sets the bar high and this in turn piles a lot of pressure on my side in the process of following his footsteps.”

Chris 99 described Nutty O, whom he draws inspiration from alongside Jamaican singer Chris Martin, as a mentor who is playing a major role in his career.

“Nutty O to me is more than a brother, but a legendary mentor, kind helper and a great schemer. He has been assisting me in many ways, be it song writing or arrangement. I can say he has been heavily involved in my entire creative process,” he said.

“I am more than grateful to have Nutty O in my corner. I owe him a debt of gratitude; he is the man behind the scenes in most of my music.”

Chris 99 has been featured on one of Nutty O’s songs titled Haisi Danger off the latter's extended play titled Cornerstone.

This is not the first time for Chris 99 to collaborate with his brother. In 2016, they had a duet titled Tonight which was produced at Kenako Muzik.

Chris 99, who started recording music in 2012 and has featured on several Zimdancehall riddims, said he was a versatile artiste not fixed to any genre. He can do rap, trap, RnB, dancehall and Afro-beats.

One of his successful tracks is titled 99 off Frosty riddim produced by DJ Tamuka.
