Mandla Ndebele: The man keeping WestProp on track

Every vision begins with a visionary, but it takes a team to bring that vision to life.

Music offers a fitting metaphor. Every memorable performance may have a lead artist, but it succeeds because of the musicians working in harmony behind the scenes.

At WestProp, chief executive officer Ken Sharpe is the maestro behind an ambitious vision for Zimbabwe: integrated communities where people can live, work, shop and play, driven by the goal of laying one billion bricks by 2050. But every great composition needs disciplined execution.

If Sharpe is the composer, chief projects officer Mandla Ndebele is the master builder, translating vision into reality through meticulous planning and execution.

Ndebele's workplace is the construction site, where he oversees project strategy, engineering, logistics and supply chain management. From Pomona City to Millennium Heights and The Hills Luxury Lifestyle Estate, he ensures projects are delivered on schedule and to the company's required standards.

For years, Ndebele has helped drive WestProp's vision of creating world-class urban developments in Zimbabwe. Today, his focus is on expanding that vision through sustainable, integrated communities across the country.

Despite his senior role, Ndebele describes himself as a team player.

"I am a team player," he says. "I wait for my turn and execute as per the instruction of the maestro."

As chief projects officer, he is responsible for project strategy, planning, procurement, construction delivery, regulatory compliance and stakeholder engagement across the company's multi-billion-dollar development portfolio.

His expertise spans the entire project lifecycle, from land acquisition and master planning to financing, construction, compliance and operational handover.

"My passion lies in sustainable urban growth, affordable housing delivery, infrastructure-led development and transforming African cities through innovative real estate solutions," he says.

Ndebele is also interested in applying technology, artificial intelligence and modern construction methods to improve project efficiency and unlock new opportunities within the built environment.

Beyond his corporate responsibilities, he contributes to discussions on property investment, urban planning, housing delivery, infrastructure development and economic growth. His leadership philosophy centres on execution excellence, long-term value creation and developing communities that benefit future generations.

Sharpe credits Ndebele with playing a key role in delivering the company's vision.

"Behind every vision and every success is a strong team. It is never about the individual; it is always about the team that supports the leader," Sharpe says.

"Mandla has grown enormously over the years, and what I admire most is his loyalty. He always puts the company first. If he feels he is lacking in one area, he works even harder. He never says no to a challenge and is someone you can always rely on."

Sharpe says Ndebele has been instrumental in delivering WestProp's customer-centric approach.

"He consistently goes beyond customer expectations and sees projects through from conception to completion. His strengths extend beyond project delivery. He has also worked closely with me to shape the company's future vision and development pipeline."

As WestProp continues to expand its footprint, Ndebele remains central to turning strategy into completed developments, ensuring the company's long-term vision is matched by disciplined execution.
