BRITISH miner, Kavango Resources Plc, has appointed Everjoy Ngomamiti (pictured) general manager mining operations as the firm seeks to step up its gold mining exploration and drilling efforts.
Kavango has three projects in Zimbabwe, with the firm focusing on its most promising project, Hillside, which consists of 44 gold claims covering 503 hectares.
Kavango’s other two mining projects are the Nara Gold and Leopard Projects.
“Kavango Resources plc, the Southern Africa-focused metals exploration and gold production company, is pleased to announce the appointment of Everjoy Ngomamiti as general manager for its mining operations, effective immediately,” Kavango said in a statement.
“Ngomamiti joins Kavango from Barrick Mining Corporation, where he was mining manager at that company’s flagship Bulyanhulu Gold Mine in Tanzania. With 19 years of international mining experience across Africa and Australia, Ngomamiti brings world-class operational and technical expertise to Kavango at a critical stage in its growth.”
Ngomamiti left Zimbabwe in 2012 and spent nine years working in gold and copper mines in Western Australia before his stint at Barrick’s Bulyanhulu Gold Mine in Tanzania.
Kavango chief executive officer Matthew Turney said the miner was delighted to welcome Ngomamiti back home to Zimbabwe.
“We are certain that Everjoy’s experience will prove to be invaluable, as Kavango seeks to introduce modern mechanised mining across its gold portfolio,” he said.

“We must thank TM Partners for finding Everjoy, after an exceptional search. Our primary goal was to find a Zimbabwean candidate with extensive international experience in modern mining. TM Partners ran a superb recruitment process to achieve this.”
He said Ngomamiti matched this profile precisely.
“Now that he has joined Kavango, it marks a major step forward in our growth plan. Everjoy is a seasoned mining leader with an impressive operational track record,” Turney added.
“He returns to Zimbabwe to help build something transformative in this country’s goldfields. This is a first-class appointment for Kavango and marks the beginning of our move towards much more significant mining.”
Responding to why he returned to Zimbabwe, Ngomamiti said he felt it was time to return to his roots.
“I think first and foremost, the biggest question people ask me is why I joined Kavango because I’m coming from Barrick’s Bulyanhulu Gold Mine in Tanzania, where daily we’re producing, you know, about 20kgs of gold every day, and then I was in charge of mining,” he said.
He said at the Tanzania mine, he managed 600 staff who produced about 4 500 tonnes (t) in material movement daily.
“I was in charge of 12 trucks, four to five tonne trucks, six jumbos (jumbo drill rigs), six solos (solo drilling machines), 10 boggers, and all the other auxiliary equipment. But now, I’m joining the Kavango team, which is producing at the moment only 30t a day,” Ngomamiti said.
“I’m coming from a place where I was producing 4 500t to 30t a day, and the biggest question is why, and it’s because of a number of reasons. The first reason is that I’m born and bred in Zimbabwe, so home is the best; I’m coming back home.
“The second thing is the vision of Kavango. We are sitting on the Filabusi Green Belt Zone. We are sitting on a 10-million-ounce complex, and I believe in the next five years, this is going to be a tier one mine, which means we’ll be producing plus 500 000 ounces in a year.”
He said the third thing was that he was bringing a wealth of knowledge from Australia and Tanzania.
