SecZim deepens capital markets awareness

SecZim chief executive officer Anymore Taruvinga

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Zimbabwe (SecZim) is deepening capital market awareness through an outreach programme meant to empower students and teachers across the country with essential knowledge about investment alternatives. The #MySchool outreach programme is designed to foster financial literacy and encourage future participation in the capital markets, SecZim said

The toolkit, whose contents were reviewed and approved by the Curriculum Development Unit of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, serves as a supplementary learning resource, the capital markets regulator said yesterday. It equips teachers with the necessary tools to deliver financial literacy education through a “train the trainer” methodology, ensuring the programme’s sustainability, it said

Since the launch of the Capital Market Toolkit in November 2023, SecZim has conducted workshops at schools, as well as at school fairs and exhibitions, reaching over 2 000 students and 50 teachers.

Schools that have benefited include government, mission and private, from Rudandha Secondary in Zaka to Nyanga High School Marist Brothers, and others which were finalists in the 2024 Capital Market Quiz.

“A key feature of the #MySchool programme is its focus on sustainability. By running on-site workshops and handing over the Capital Market Toolkit to schools, SecZim ensures that students and teachers can continue to access and benefit from the learning materials long after the outreach sessions, have ebded,” the capital markets regulator said.
