Midlands Agric Show roars to life

The annual show for the promotion and facilitation of agricultural growth and development is being organised by the Midlands Show Society (MSS).

THE 2024 edition of the Midlands Agricultural Show starts today at the Gweru Showgrounds, with more than 100 exhibitors having paid to participate at this year’s event.

The annual show for the promotion and facilitation of agricultural growth and development is being organised by the Midlands Show Society (MSS).

In an interview yesterday, MSS chairperson Augustine Mupakurirwa said this year’s agricultural and business extravaganza had witnessed more exhibitors taking up stands compared to last year.

“So far, we have at least 123 exhibitors who have already paid and confirmed their participation and this is quite an increase compared to last year’s 100 exhibitors,” he said.

“We have some [exhibitors] that have confirmed, but are still to pay. We are hoping that we will have between 130 and 140 exhibitors by the end of the show.”

Mupakurirwa said entertainment activities were lined for show attendants, with award-winning Afro-pop and Zimdancehall artiste Killer T expected to perform on Saturday.

“We settled for Killer T because we felt his music appeals to all age groups. For the first time in the history of the Midlands Agricultural Show this year, we are having car burnouts on Sunday. So we are saying this is a show to remember and people should come in their numbers,” he said.

Mupakurirwa said Gweru-based businessman and property developer, Sheasham Investments director Clever Mandaza would be the guest of honour and would officially open the show on Saturday.

This year’s 98th edition of the show will run under the theme Strategic Innovation for Economic Growth.
