PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has said he will win next Wednesday’s ballot and Zanu PF remains the best foot forward to defend the country’s interests as campaigns hit the home stretch.
Addressing thousands of party supporters at Handina Primary and Secondary schools in Makoni South constituency ahead of his visit to Angola for a Sadc heads of State Summit, Mnangagwa said: “Yes we are going to vote, but I am not going to be beaten. We are having elections next week and as our Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga said, we need our country to continue enjoying peace.
“Zanu PF is the only party with the history of liberation in the country.”
Mnangagwa said Zanu PF would wind up its campaigns in Midlands, his home province on Saturday.
Mnangagwa is seeking re-election for a second term after controversially winning the 2018 polls.
The Zanu PF leader is targeting five million votes for an outright victory, while his main challenger Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson Chamisa aims to garner all six million votes from registered voters.
Out of the 11 presidential candidates, there is only one female aspiring president Elisabeth Valerio, down from four in 2018.
The run-up to next week’s elections have been marred by political violence, banning of opposition rallies and endless court challenges against the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.
