THE Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) has suspended Premier Soccer League referee Rusununguko Mutero for six matches for poor performance in handling the match between FC Platinum and Green Fuel.
Mutero allegedly made controversial decisions which led Green Fuel lose by a one-goal to nil in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clash on July 26.
In a Press statement yesterday, Zifa said Mutero’s officiating was deemed to be below expected standards.
“Zifa wishes to inform all stakeholders, the media and the football fraternity that referee Rusununguko Mutero has been suspended from officiating in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) for a period of six match days, covering matchday 24 to matchday 29 of 2025,” said the national football body.
“The decision follows an assessment of his performance during the Premier Soccer League match between Green Fuel FC and FC Platinum, played on July 26, 2025 at Green Fuel Arena.
“The match commissioner’s report highlighted that Mutero’s officiating fell short of the required standards, thereby constituting a breach of paragraph 21 of the Referees’ Code of Conduct.”
Mutero is punished under paragraph 21.18 of the Premier Soccer League Rules and Regulations Final of 2015, which says that any referee who is constantly involved in making controversial decisions shall be reported to the Zifa Referees Committee for disciplinary measures to be taken.
Mutero is said to have ignored three penalty incidents that would have seen Green Fuel win if they had utilised the chances.
