How do we read the Bible

Bible

This would probably be the dumbest question or the wisest depending on which stage of the knowledge trajectory we’re asking from.

If our inquiry is premised on enough knowledge then we could be asking an intelligent question.

I am very alive to the fact that I’m speaking to an international audience as much as I’m speaking near as the Gospel of Christ has to reach the uttermost parts of the world beginning from Jerusalem or home or where we are.

This is important and necessary because when using a valuable resource like this one to help navigate through the Bible you have an appreciation that we understand the magnitude and depth of trust you are putting into it.

I’m still dealing with the subject of the emphasis of the Gospel of Christ.

While we shout day in and day out to read and study the Bible, we cannot run away from the reality that probably the majority will not read it and finish it even if they hear this for seventy years.

They still wait for their pastor, prophet or papa to read for them.

The spirit of this column is to encourage you to read the Bible and be able to defend the faith for yourself.

Many times when we have questions especially these days when there are many things happening in the church we use the opinion of opposing pastors and stand with our papa never mind what the Bible says.

Regrettably we cannot read and interpret the Bible for ourselves.

In this column we found out how the Jews used the Bible to reject Jesus and how Jesus used the Scriptures to prove that he was the One.

Back in the days of Jesus they knew their material from Genesis to Malachi.

It was on their fingertips so to speak.

Our Bible is now Genesis to Revelation.

If the Jews didn’t find Jesus in it we’re even more compelled to be diligent in our study of the Bible.

I often say if there’s real appetite, the Bible isn’t that big, you can finish it four times per year.

We can all have different opinions but it’s the opinion of God that matters.

Romans 3:4 testifies, “God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.”

Public opinion doesn’t change divine truth.

It’s only the Bible that can correct biblical matters as stated in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “[16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: [17] That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”

You have your Bible at your disposal and your pastor.

These days you have the advantage of this material.

I go further to help us in case you don’t trust me enough because I’m distant but you find my submission unbiased.

I was well grounded in every aspect during my formative years but always lacked because we didn’t have enough teachers with full understanding of the new creation and the present day ministry of the Holy Spirit or the abiding presence of God although we  had enough preachers in the miraculous.

This led me to study more, pray and fast more to understand why the things I was reading in the epistles for example were not seen in the churches.

Apostle Paul’s doctrine was absent and probably so even today.

I’m at a place now that I have a compass that appears to me to be similar to the one Jesus and Apostle Paul used.

This is to say I have not arrived though I’m compelled to say I am using the right material. Let’s use Acts 8:30, “And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?”

This is the story of the Ethiopian eunuch.

He was reading from Isaiah without understanding.

If I wanted to be your everyday preacher to collect a special seed, I would quote the following verse, Acts 8:31, “And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.”

And leave it there. However I have conscience.

You’re a new creation/creature who has the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit to teach you.

If we’re serious with seeking to understand the truth of the Word, we would get it and help render jobless manipulative grandstanding and religious apparatchik.

Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen. Grace and peace be multiplied to you through knowledge.
