
A 24-YEAR-OLD man from Chief Sinamagonde's area in Lusulu, Binga, has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of another young man following a violent confrontation at a local business centre.
Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the incident, adding that Headman Moyo (22) died on May 30 this year after sustaining two deep stab wounds, in the stomach and on the left side of the chest.
The incident happened at Chipale business centre and police have since arrested Alfred Mutale who is detained at ZRP Lusulu over murder allegations.
“The tragedy unfolded after a series of escalating confrontations between the two men. Earlier in the day, around 11am at Zumanana business centre, the deceased allegedly hurled insults at patrons.
“When Mutale rebuked him for his behaviour, Moyo reportedly responded by slapping him across the face. Mutale then fled the scene,” Banda said.
Banda said tensions reignited later that evening when the two met again at Chipale business centre when Moyo reportedly confronted Mutale demanding answers and later assaulting him with a sjambok made of a hippopotamus hide.
A witness reportedly attempted calm the situationto no avail.
“Mutale sought refuge at the homestead of his 15-year-old uncle. Moyo followed and continued the attack in the presence of others. Another witness tried to disarm Moyo but was assaulted in the process. Eventually, a physical fight broke out between the witness and Moyo,” Banda said.

In a tragic turn, while the two men fought, Mutale reportedly approached from behind and stabbed Moyo twice and he walked a short distance before collapsing.
Moyo was rushed to Chipale Rural Health Centre by witnesses where he succumbed to his injuries before receiving medical attention.
“ZRP Lusulu attended the scene and confirmed that the deceased was wearing a yellow T-shirt and black trousers. The body was later transferred to Hwange Colliery Hospital enroute to United Bulawayo Hospitals for a post mortem examination. The knife used in the alleged murder has not yet been recovered,” Banda said.
Banda advised the public to avoid fighting.
“We discourage the youths from abusing drugs that influence negative behaviour, leading to the commission of various crimes. Citizens should not settle scores through use of violence because the law will always take its course,” he said.
