Hit and run cases irks police

In a statement, national police national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi expressed concern over the increase in the number of hit and run accidents during the night.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has warned drivers to exercise caution amid concerns of a rise in hit and run cases during the festive season.

In a statement, national police national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi expressed concern over the increase in the number of hit and run accidents during the night.

Nyathi said drivers should exercise extreme caution and prioritise road safety.

“In some fatal road traffic accidents recorded, pedestrians were killed during the night while crossing the roads,” he said.

Nyathi said in some instances, motorists did not stop after the accidents.

“On January 1 this year, a man aged 23 died on the spot after being hit by an unknown motorist who did not stop after the accident along Khami Road opposite DA service station (in Bulawayo),” he said.

Nyathi said in the event of a road traffic accident, drivers should stop and render first aid to the victims and promptly report the accident to the police.
