‘Youth involvement crucial for community development’

HWANGE Local Board junior town secretary Kgotso Nare has said youth involvement in decision-making processes is crucial in improving livelihoods of the communities.

Speaking during the National Junior Councils Association of Zimbabwe conference held in Victoria Falls recently, Nare said engaging the youths brought positive change in the society.

“The conference was an eye-opener, making me realise the importance of involving youths in decisionmaking,” Nare said.

“Inclusion of youths in decision-making is vital for building future leaders who can bring positive change, maintain peace and unity, and stand up for their society and nation."

Nare said he believed that participating in decision-making processes boosted youths' confidence and self-belief, leading to better career choices and increased responsibility.

"Through active participation, young people are empowered to play a vital role in their development and that of their communities, learning life skills, human rights and citizenship and promoting positive civic action," he said.

“The conference also educated them on local governance and service delivery, highlighting the need for youths to be involved in uplifting their communities through active participation in service delivery process.”
