‘Spruce up buildings ahead of Sanganai/Hlanganani Expo’

MUTARE City Council

MUTARE City Council has directed property owners within the central business district (CBD) to refurbish their buildings before Sanganai/Hlanganani/Kumbanayi Expo slated for next month in the eastern border city.

Mutare will be hosting the Expo from September 10 to 12.

In a notice published this week, Mutare City Council said most of the buildings in the CBD had not been attended to for some time.

“Notice is hereby given that the City of Mutare is directing all owners of buildings within the central business district to carry out necessary maintenance, that is repair/refurbish and repaint the buildings,” the municipality said.

“It can be widely agreed that most buildings in the central business district have gone for a long time unattended, thereby (being dilapidated). This is also in contravening of the provisions of the said Act and the operative Town Planning Scheme 1 covering the area.

“The City of Mutare will be hosting this year’s edition of the Sanganai/Hlanganani Expo from September 10 to 12, 2025 and it's imperative to repaint and refurbish the buildings before this event.”

Traditionally hosted in Bulawayo, the annual event brings together a wide mix of stakeholders, including local and international exhibitors, dignitaries and travellers.

Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution minister Misheck Mugadza said key facilities set to host the expo were being refurbished to meet world-class standards.
