THE John Landa Nkomo Memorial Trust on Monday and Tuesday joined His Excellency the President, Dr Emerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, the ruling Party Zanu PF, the War Veterans Association and nation at large in solemnly and proudly commemorating Heroes Day and Defence Forces Day respectively.

This Heroes  commemorations always provides an important opportunity to reflect on the immense sacrifices of our liberation heroes and celebrate the ongoing dedication of our Defence Forces, all under the guiding principle of national development and progress and Vision 2030.

This year’s Defence Forces Day theme, “Zimbabwe Defence Forces: Guaranteeing Peace and Stability for the Attainment of Vision 2030,” resonates deeply with the core values and legacy of the late Vice President  John Landa Nkomo.

As a revered National Hero, a dedicated nation-builder, and a champion of peace, Dr. Nkomo’s life embodied the very essence of this theme.

His popular mantra, “Peace begins with me. Peace begins with you. Peace begins with all of us,” remains a timeless call to action for every Zimbabwean.

The John Landa Nkomo Memorial Trust, in its work to perpetuate Dr. Nkomo’s legacy, understands that a stable and peaceful environment is the bedrock of development.

His vision for a prosperous Zimbabwe, where citizens are empowered to contribute to the nation’s growth, can only be realised in a climate of peace and unity.

The Trust’s ongoing projects in education, health, and community empowerment are a testament to this belief, as we strive to build on the foundation laid by our heroes.

“As we honour our heroes and celebrate our brave men and women in uniform on Defence Forces Day, we are reminded of the inseparable link between the sacrifices of the past and the aspirations of the future,” said  Jabulani Nkomo, Chairman of the John Landa Nkomo Memorial Trust.

“The Zimbabwe Defence Forces’ commitment to peace and stability is crucial for ensuring that the Vision 2030 goals of a prosperous and empowered upper-middle-income society are achieved.

"We call upon all Zimbabweans to reflect on the meaning of heroism not just in the context of the liberation struggle, but in our daily commitment to building a peaceful, united, and prosperous nation.”

The John Landa Nkomo Memorial Trust reaffirms its dedication to upholding the values of patriotism, unity and development for which our national heroes fought.
