Firm faces money laundering charge

A CHINESE company appeared before Harare magistrate, Marehwanazvo Gofa, yesterday facing  a charge of money laundering involving US$ 167 058,52.

A CHINESE company appeared before Harare magistrate, Marehwanazvo Gofa, yesterday facing  a charge of money laundering involving US$ 167 058,52.

The company, Vorivet Investments (Pvt) Ltd, represented by Tichaona Tikwani (39), was granted US$500 bail pending finalisation of investigations.

The company operating from 19 Bessemer Road, Graniteside, Harare, is in the business of manufacturing plastic ware.

The State represented by Rufaro Chonzi alleged that in May 2025, preliminary investigations revealed that the company imported Naphthalene from South Africa worth US$ 167 058,52.

The court, however, heard that the company is not a registered importer in terms of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Exchange Control regulations.

The court was told that the company did not pay for its imports through the banking system.

Chonzi further stated that the company’s source of funds is not known, raising suspicion of money laundering.
