A HARARE man succumbed to injuries after he was assaulted by his drinking mates during a dispute sparked over US$1 meant for change.

One of the suspects, Arnold Moses, appeared before Harare magistrate Rufaro Panavanhu charged with murder last week and was remanded in custody to January.

Prosecutor Takudzwa Jambawu said on April 12, the now deceased was given US$10 by one Soweto to buy beer and was supposed to return with US$8 as change.

After buying the beer, the deceased allegedly told Soweto that he was yet to collect the change.

It is alleged that after a while, the now deceased was again sent to buy beer.

The deceased returned with empty beer bottles and claimed that the cashier had told him that they had exhausted their money.

A dispute ensued, but the cashier insisted that he did not owe the deceased any change.

The deceased was searched and he was found with US$7 in his pocket.

He failed to account for the outstanding US$1 and was assaulted.

On April 13, the now deceased succumbed to the injuries.
