BCC to host investment conference in Harare

Bulawayo City Council

THE Bulawayo City Council (BCC) is set to host the Khumbule’ khaya Investment Conference in Harare in a bid to attract investors to Zimbabwe’s second-largest city at a time when many companies have closed shop and relocated from the country’s former industrial hub.

Announcing the latest developments, BCC spokesperson Bongiwe Ngwenya said the conference would be held today, adding that various stakeholders were expected to attend the indaba.

“The City of Bulawayo is hosting the Khumbule’ khaya Investment Conference — Invest in Bulawayo, a gathering aimed at connecting Bulawayo citizens interested in investing in the City of Kings,” she said.

The one-day conference will take place at the Cresta Hotel, Msasa in Harare. Bulawayo, once Zimbabwe's thriving industrial hub, has seen many of its key industries scaling down and some closing due to economic challenges.”

Ngwenya said the key objectives of the conference were to promote investment opportunities, facilitate networking, policy advocacy and knowledge sharing.

She said the conference would showcase sectors such as manufacturing, technology, tourism, agriculture, real estate development, and other potential investment opportunities in Bulawayo.

The conference is also expected to provide a platform for knowledge sharing on business trends, challenges and opportunities specific to the Bulawayo market, with a focus on successful case studies.

“The conference will present an opportunity for investors to engage policymakers and city officials to discuss issues affecting business and the overall economic climate in Bulawayo and to advocate for policies that support local businesses,” Ngwenya said.

The Khumbule’ khaya Conference seeks to attract investment from people hailing from Bulawayo in various parts of Zimbabwe and the World, as well as Zimbabwean citizens interested in setting up businesses in the City of Kings.

Bulawayo has experienced an escalation in company closure and relocation, leaving many industrial premises white elephants with no business taking place.
