A Tsholotsho-based police officer and his accomplice appeared at the Plumtree magistrates’ court last week facing charges of stealing 11 herd of cattle.
The police officer Traver Munyuki (31) and his accomplice Bernard Sibanda were remanded in custody to February 24.
Prosecutor Selestine Madziwa alleged that on August 16 last year, the complainant Kaundi Nleya was informed by his employee that his 11 herd of cattle were missing.
Nleya posted a message on a WhatsApp group seeking assistance to recover his livestock and two days later he got a tip off on the whereabouts of his cattle.
The complainant, who is based in South Africa, returned home to file a police report.
Police acted swiftly after getting information to the effect that the stolen cattle were driven to an abattoir in Umguza for sale.
Further investigations led to the arrest of the duo.
In court, it emerged that Sibanda was on the police’s wanted list after defaulting in court in 2021 before fleeing to South Africa.
