‘Drug free’ Blot to open at One Big Show

By Tendai Sauta

Zimdancehall artist and songwriter Takura Chiwoniso, popularly known as Blot, has publicly declared that he is now drug-free following a period of rehabilitation. Blot revealed his transformation during a recent interview on the DJ Olah 7 Podcast, where he spoke candidly about his recovery journey.

The Ndiri Bad hitmaker spent two months at Matrix Rehabilitation and Disciplinary Camp in Harare, a move that has been widely welcomed by his fans and the broader community. Following his return, Blot pledged to embrace responsible citizenship and promised happier times ahead. In recognition of his repentance and transformed lifestyle, DJ Olah 7 contracted him to perform at a show hosted at his home in Chiendambuya, Nyazura, during the Christmas break.

In a more spiritually uplifting development, Blot will also be among the opening acts at the One Big Show on December 31 at Glamis Arena in Harare. The event will headline Zimbabwean entertainment giants Winky D and Jah Prayzah as they usher fans into the New Year.

Blot rose to prominence with early releases such as Handinyengerere, Ndozvifumura, Ndokudisisa, Urimumero, Kumanya Nengoma and Chi Adaptor, among others. In 2017, he embarked on his first regional and international tour, performing in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Pretoria, before appearing in the United Kingdom alongside artists including Shinsoman and Boom Beto.

Following his public admission that he will never return to drug use, Blot received praise from his mother and revealed plans to reunite and collaborate with Silent Killer to strengthen the anti-drugs campaign. He urged people not to celebrate others’ downfalls, but instead to encourage self-correction and allow personal struggles to serve as lessons to others.

Blot also pledged to take greater responsibility towards his wife and family, including his son, Takura Chiwoniso, from his first marriage.

“I now know who I am, and I deserve better,” he said, adding that his drug use was never public and was only discovered after he exhibited withdrawal symptoms.

“I used to be in serious tension with my manager over abandoning drugs. Going for rehabilitation was my own decision and the only way out,” he said.

“It was not easy staying in rehabilitation. At times it felt impossible, but within a month I was surprised that I was completely healed. I went through detoxification and physical exercises.”

He thanked the Matrix Rehabilitation team for their work, saying their efforts play a critical role in transforming the youth.

Blot added that he now attends church strictly to pray, and that he and his management have resolved to change his social circles and environment to ensure he remains drug-free.

He also expressed gratitude to Chipaz Promotions and Prophet Kuda Jose for their support during his rehabilitation.

Blot’s manager, Tony Bindura, confirmed the artist’s return to the music scene, saying preparations were already underway for both local and international performances.
