Marshal Mazango (26) appeared before Zvishavane magistrate Sengster Tawengwa for the savage attack on his wife Nomcelo Nkululeko (26) where he pleaded not guilty to contravening the Domestic Violence Act Chapter 9:13 (Physical Abuse).

It was the State’s case that on May 12 at around 6am, the two had an argument after Nkululeko found used condoms in Mazango’s pocket and accused him of being promiscuous.

“I stated that I searched his pocket and I saw used condoms and decided to quit the relationship by asking Mazango to leave my house; that’s when he started beating me,” Nkululeko said in her statement outline.

Mazango allegedly bashed Nkululeko with clinched fists on her face and chest several times intending to cause grievous bodily harm.

Nkululeko collapsed and was rushed to hospital by neighbours who had heard her screaming, before Mazango fled the scene.

In his defence, Mazango said they were fighting and it was unfortunate that Nkululeko reported the case before him. The court ordered an extensive medical examination of Nkululeko.

Mazango was denied bail and remanded in custody to tomorrow for continuation of trial.
